E-PAYMENT
E-payment of Central Excise and Service Tax
e-payment is a mode of payment in addition to the
conventional methods of payment offered by the banks under specific
security norms of Reserve Bank of
Facility is available to: -
· Registered Central Excise/Service Tax Assessee who possesses the 15 digit PAN based Assessee Code.
· Customer of any authorized bank, which provide e-Payment solution.
· Customers having Banks’ Internet banking ID.
· Customers who have given the option for effecting Central Excise/Service Tax payment through the internet with the authorized bank.
Time of Payment: -
· This is a 24x7 facility.
· All payments effected up to 8 p.m. will be accounted for the day as that day’s receipt.
· Payments effected after 8 p.m. will be accounted as the next working day’s receipt.
Procedure for Payment: -
· Customer should log-on to the bank’s Internet site after entering the user Id and password provided to them by the bank.
· They should fill the on-line Challan.
· The customer should select the appropriate tax type from the pop up menu and enter the tax amount.
· Thereafter the challan should be submitted electronically.
· The customer has to thereafter enter his User Id and Password to enter in the secured e-banking area.
· Customer should select an account for debiting the total tax amount.
· Authorize the payment.
Challans are Receipts-
· Cyber receipt with transaction number of the bank becomes available immediately.
· On the next working day, the acknowledgement of the challan duly signed and stamped is made available to the taxpayer at the given address by the bank.

· On line filling of single challan.
· Minimum fields of the challan need to be filled. Most of the fields are populated automatically.
· Selection of tax type is from drop-down menu.
· Instant Cyber receipt with banks transaction number becomes available.
· The acknowledgement of the challan gets delivered at the customer’s address.
The acknowledgement of the challan will contain the CIN which is a unique 20 digit identifier containing the BSR code of the bank branch (7 digits), the date of deposit (8 digits), and the challan sequence number (5 digits). This number is to be quoted by the taxpayer in his Central Excise /Service tax return. The assessee can also see the details of tax payment on https://nsdl.co.in/ by entering the CIN. The format of the GAR 7 challans is available on cbic.gov.in.
